“I HIGHLY recommend Jennie as both a doula and massage therapist. She was a huge support to me and my husband throughout my pregnancy and postpartum as well!
First of all, she is a gifted massage therapist and her massages helped to sooth my changing body during my pregnancy and after my baby was born. But more importantly, she was a lifesaver during the birth of our daughter. I honestly can't imagine going through labor and delivery without her. Leading up to the birth, she assisted us with all aspect of preparation including helping us with our birth plan, breathing techniques, what to expect during and after birth, resources, etc. She was so supportive of my husband and made him feel confident and prepared for labor and delivery. The three of us worked together in preparation of the birth and I felt like we were a solid team! It gave us confidence and put us at ease leading up to when I went into labor. We knew Jennie was there supporting us every step of the way and it made all the difference.
When I went into labor, it was so comforting to have Jennie in our corner. This was our first child and it was wonderful to have somewhere there who knew the process and hospital inside and out. She was at the hospital when we arrived and I was so happy to see her!! During my labor Jennie was there giving us her full attention and she is one of the main reasons why everything ended up going smoothly. She worked so well with the doctors and delivery nurses and helped me stay on track with my birth plan. She helped me through each and every contraction (hip compressions, massage, breathing) and after an intense and difficult labor (about 12 hours total) our daughter was born naturally just as we had hoped. Jennie was a beacon of strength and love throughout the entire process and I can not thank her enough for helping us through such an intense, life changing event.” - Chelsea

FAQs
What is a doula?
A birth doula provides emotional and physical support, along with resources and birth preparation to an expecting family prenatally, during birth and shortly after.

What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A doula is a non-medical support person who focuses on caring for you emotionally and physically, and helps you to feel informed and empowered. While they often have similar approaches, a midwife differs from a doula in a very large way. A midwife is a *medical* professional, meaning that the primary focus of their care is on the health and safety of you and your baby. Both doulas and midwives work with you prenatally, support you throughout the birth and follow up with you postpartum. Specifically at a birth, doulas are often found doing hip squeezes, refilling your water bottle, providing guidance and reassurance (to you and your partner), and repeating affirmations that empower you. At a birth, midwives may be found doing similar things to a doula, but their top priorities include: ensuring that you and baby's vital signs are stable, assessing you and your baby, completing cervical exams when needed, administering medication if necessary, and catching the baby you are birthing.
Will a doula be useful if I am having a cesarean?
Absolutely! As your doula, I can help you find a rhythm and stay informed, and can ensure that you are cared for emotionally and mentally. At cesarean births, whether they are planned or not, I will be there to help with cesarean birth preparedness, balancing your emotions and thoughts, and keeping you informed of the options you still have in the operating room.
What if my doula is unavailable at the time of my birth?
First things first: you will NOT BE ALONE. I am a part of a collective of wonderful birth and postpartum doulas in the Boulder County area. We work hard to assess and manage our time & commitments, and to make ourselves available to support one another. While incredibly rare that a birth doula is unexpectedly unavailable for any period of time during your labor/birth, it’s especially important to me that you are supported. You can personally request a backup doula from my team, or I can work with you to determine who would be a good fit.
How does a birth doula work with my partner?
Many believe a doula takes the role of the partner when, in fact, our role supports them as well. My role as your doula is to amplify support, and that goes for your partner too. I have worked with many different birthing partners, yet they all have one thing in common: Your partner knows you better than anyone else. Even if they aren't sure how to support you in labor/birth, they know your fears, preferences, and desires. I work with your partner by encouraging them, offering guidance and suggestions when needed, reminding them to also stay hydrated and to take bathroom breaks, and more. If your partner has witnessed birth before, they still deserve support and the comfort in knowing they are supported as well.
